Why now is the perfect time to travel

Sepetmebr 23, 2019

Dreaming about your perfect Dream Trip? Do you want to check off boxes on your bucket list? Need to escape from your normal routine?

Look no further than to find some amazing reasons why now is the perfect time to travel.

Shoulder season (a.k.a. low season) is here for only a short time, after the rush of the spring break high prices, and before the summer travelers start, and that means cheaper airfare, more room categories at some resorts, less busy destinations, and some cruises are offering free passengers.

Do I need to tell you anymore? Well if you are curious, keep reading.

1. Airfare deals are here for now.

Generally airfare is going to cost you a heck of a lot (if you are like me and travelling from Canada). I can't completely justify it, but since I love to travel I tend to like to fly off season, as I can generally get a better deal on my flight. I also tend to fly mid week instead of on the weekend and get generally get a much better deal, sometimes flying in the afternoon too, instead of the weekend. The only problem I find, since I travel with my kids, is that a lot of business people travel during the week and they tend not to appreciate my kids in the airports, or on the plane as much. Thankfully they are getting older and I am not as concerned with crying babies anymore. Overall the boys are pretty well seasoned travelers and don't bother people too much. But that does mean our chances of a business class upgrade are non-existent during the week.

2. Vacations are good for you

Do I need to say more? I mean of course getting away from our regular routine, and spending quality time with loved ones is good for us. But seeing the world is good for us in another way. Showing our kids, the different cultures and exploring places that have been around over a century and trying new foods, are all part of the reason why traveling is so good for you. It doesn't necessarily mean sitting on the beach with a cold drink in my hand, watching the kids build a sand castle by the ocean (do other people's kids actually do that, because mine don't, haha), isn't good for you. It just means that the world is such an amazing place and we are only on this planet for a short time, why not experience as much of it as possible.

3. Use your vacation days from work

I do understand that sometimes we need to take time off to get things done around the house, maybe its a renovation, or your kids are away at summer camp, and you are going to go through their clothes or redecorate. Sometimes we need that time to complete tasks that we have put on the back burner at home. BUT sometimes, just sometimes, we need to escape the normal routine, jump on a plane, or train and go explore this earth. Besides, you might not get to keep your vacation days next year so why waste them. I am also pretty sure I read somewhere that people are more productive at work, when they are well rested!!

4. Spending quality time with your loved ones....  a.k.a making memories

This is something that I see the value in immediately. With so much technology in our lives, vacation to me means unplugging from it all and truly experiencing the world with my family. Whether that means getting lost on a cobblestone path in England, or laughing so hard you forget how to breathe on a beach. it is all about making memories with my family that will last a lifetime.

Plan your perfect vacation

February 14, 2019

What is important to you when you think of a vacation.

Is it relaxing on a beach? Wondering the streets in a far away country? Seeing the wonders of the world?

What ever it is, planning is often the part that people forget to do when they think of a vacation.

I always ask my clients, what do you want your vacation to feel like? Do you want to feel rushed around an amusement park? Do you want o relax on a white sand beach with a book in your hand? Are you a social butterfly who like to meet new people?

Once you have that all figured out, then next part is pretty simple. It sort of just falls into place, although you might have a few details to work through.

For me, planning is one of the hardest things, since I am working with 4 other personalities that travel as a group with me (husband and 3 boys). Mind you, as long as we are together I don't mind what we are doing.

After I figure out the feel of the vacation we want, next comes the budget!!! Not everyone will agree with me, as many people start with the budget and how much are they wanting to spend on a vacation, but for me, my vacation in more about the people I spend it with and not the dollar value that is attached to it (my husband will disagree completely with me on this one). Sometimes, the places I want to go, just aren't in the cards, with the budget we have set out for ourselves. And that is ok, I have a LONG list of places that are on my bucket list that I will eventually get to.

Part of budgeting for me, is also looking at the time of year we travel. I can often find a way better price, if we travel off season. Or check to see if any festivals or deals are happening that we can jump in on. And I am continuously looking for a great deal. But I am a beach bum, and I love me some tropical weather in the cold Canadian winters so I know that for the most part I am going to be paying top dollar for what I want, when I want it. Although I am going to pull my kids out of school to experience the world. There are somethings that can not be taught in a classroom that should be experienced. (like me or not, it is how I feel, and I was raised by an educator who doesn't exactly agree with me on this point).

And once I have gotten all of that under my belt, I start searching again for a better deal.

I like to plan 3 vacations in advance, and tend to start looking about 2 years out for what I want, and have found that I can get the best all inclusive deals at 330 days away from travel, or a pretty good deal around 6 months in advance. I watch about 6 weeks in advance as well, to see if a good deal comes up, but generally the days of saving a bunch on last minute trips are gone. For cruises I tend to look 2 years in advance and wait until they have a kids sail free promotion.

And travelling over seas is always done with planning a year out, and always done during off peak seasons, so that we don't have to wait in such long line ups for different things.

Happy planning EVERYONE

Wedding Bells

April 22, 2017

Are you newly engaged? Thinking of celebrating a wedding anniversary? Want to do something special for your significant other?

Look no further.

A Destination Wedding, vow-renewal, or special celebration?

It might seem scary to think that having a destination wedding is too far out there, but in reality it can actually be much simpler that that.

In the simplest terms, you pick your budget, a location, a wedding package (some can be free if you qualify), you send out your invites, and call a great travel agent who can put a package together for you and your group as they decide who wants to come and celebrate with you, (and a fabulous travel agent, will take care of all the details for your guests and payments, so you won't have to worry about that either) and voila! you have planned your destination wedding/vow renewal.

Some may want a special ceremony just the two of you, or have a few guests with them, or a huge group to party the week away. Some may travel with kids, or it will be a second (or third) marriage for some. No matter what the scenario is, anything can be accomplished with a destination wedding, and a fantabulous travel agent.

Please remember that travel agents have many contacts at different resorts, hotels, and suppliers all over the world, so in actuality they are invaluable. Reach out to someone local and I can promise you, as long as you get a good vibe from them, they will be your biggest asset.

Going on a romantic vacation? looking to do something special for your significant other? If you are looking at a beach vacation, lets talk about a romantic dinner on the beach. Or maybe you are thinking that you can't live without your better half and want to seal the deal with a proposal? Lets book a catamaran cruise at sunset so that you can get down on one knee and make it one of the best days possible. (Thinking you want to capture the whole thing on video or even just pictures? Let me know, I know we can have that arranged for you).

Maybe you are wanting to go on a cruise, ever thought that you could get married by the captain of a cruise ship? We can do that!!

If you can dream it up, a great travel agent can help make your dream a reality.

From My Point of View: My review of the Luxury Bahia Principe Esmerelda

April 18-25, 2018

Our one year anniversary trip, sans kiddos. I couldn’t have been happier to stay at the Luxury Bahia Principe Esmerelda. It was a pretty fantastic trip. I love my children with my everything, however going away with my husband was the best thing for us to celebrate our anniversary.

Our arrival to the Punta Cana airport was pretty smooth. We got off the pane, waited about 10 mins for our luggage and sailed through customs. We boarded our bus to take our 25 min ride to the resort. It was really neat to see the actual country we were visiting.

Arrival at our resort was slightly complicated. Mostly because The Bahia Complex is just that, a huge complex. There are many different sections to this whole complex each with a different level of resort stay. We got dropped off at the main Bahia Principe resort and loaded onto a double gold cart that took us to the Esmerelda section which was closer to the beach than the main Bahia Principe. The golf cart ride took about 4 mins and we got the chance to go past the Fantasia (water park with a castle section). It was really neat to be able to drive past it and see. I know the kids will love to visit one day. We arrived at the Esmerelda lobby and a bell hop picked up our luggage and said it would be delivered to our room. We arrived a little early so our room wasn’t ready yet, but that was no problem for us, since we had packed our swim suits in our carry on bags. We changed, and headed to the swim up pool. Which is right by the beach. It was a great pool, with a jacuzzi attached to it. It was nicely lined with rows of palm trees before you could see the beautiful blue skies and the ocean. The restaurants around the main pool were very close and easy to get to. Although YOU MUST MAKE DINNER RESERVATIONS BEFORE YOU ARRIVE. We did not know this, and when you tried to make any reservations they were all full. kind of a disappointment. The buffet was good. Always a variety of choices with different meat, veggies, starches of some sorts, cheese and deli meats, and a kids section to choose from. They also usually had pizzas and a pasta station with some sort of something from the grill.

When we got to our room, which was in building 91, and over looked the pool. It was fantastic really. We had a king sizes bed and a couch and a table and chairs on the balcony. We couldn’t have asked for more really. We walked the entire complex the next day and it is huge. It may not look so big on a map, it took probably 20 mins to walk from the beach to the end of the Turquesa section (that has a smaller water park for younger aged kids) – Kind of more like a splash pad with water slides. There is such beautiful foliage around the resort and the birds. The resort does have a pretty consistent trolly service that shuffles you around the resort. It was super easy to get to and from the main square which had vendors, nightly entertainment, the casino, the night club and the sports bar. Since we were there and it was hockey playoff time we spend quite a few hours at the sports bar watching the hockey! It was great!! Loved every minute. Great service, met wonderful people. And over all it wasn’t hard to get to by trolly or a short walk.

We spent most of our time at the Esmerelda pool, but when we did venture to the beach (which was B.E.A.U.TI.F.U.L!! White sand in our toes and blue water from the ocean, it was something out of a post card. If you looked either way on the beach, it looked like you could walk for ever. We did venture out and took a walk along the beach on a few days, we found these great little stores about a 40 mins walk from the hotel. We didn’t buy anything, but I did look around. However, when we got back to the resort we realized how much sun we got on our walk. Make sure you bring a ton of sunscreen.

Let’s talk food. First of all, I am anaphylactic allergic to shellfish and all nuts, which always make travel a little scary. I can honestly say that I felt pretty comfortable eating here each and every day for our stay. I will be honest that the one day they had a full seafood night at the buffet for dinner and we didn’t have reservations that night, and I knew that I didn’t want snack food, so we walked over to the Rodizio restaurant and ended up explaining to them the situation and they gave us a table and this meal turned out to be THE BEST MEAL EVER!! I am still talking about it and can not wait to go back to have it again. It is a Brazilian steak house, where they slice different types of meat off a skewer for you, and it just keeps coming. My hubby says he got the “meat sweats” from it, what ever that means.

The buffet was delicious every single time we went. I did like the main buffet a little more as you had the chance to sit outside before the weather got too hot. We ate lunch at the beach restaurant a few days and enjoyed the ease and simplicity of the BBQ and eating at the picnic tables.

We tried to get reservations at other a la carte restaurants for the other nights we were there, but the resort must have been at full capacity because they never had any spaces for us. We will have to go back and experience them all another time.

I enjoyed our stay here very much. Our room was very well kept tidy and we never had any issue with anything. Our AC unit was great – one trick we learned was to make sure the sliding door was shut all the way to have the AC unit working. I almost had to call for an extra blanket one night the AC was so cold (it might have had something to do with the sunburn I had gotten that day too). We always had hot water and our mini fridge was always refilled. (our favorite was the bags of chips we were get, they were a perfect snack before bed or while getting ready for dinner). I loved our room location. Although I did wish that they had elevators, but it wasn’t a big issue.

At last it was time to say good bye to this little piece of heaven that is now a part of my memories that give me a yearning to go back, every time I think about it.
